Doyle Brunson Makes a Bet That He Will Live Through 2009

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

When Mark Rawden wrote CinemaBlend’s article on “The 100 Most Likely People to Die in 2009” he listed poker legend and owner of the poker room DoylesRoom.com, Doyle Brunson on 16th place and gave him a 10% chance of dying from obesity during 2009.

Brunson replied in his blog the day after the article was released and wanted to track down the “clown” that wrote the article and make a prop bet with him.

Doyle Brunson wrote the following statement in his blog:

“He said obesity would cause my death. He should have seen me 5 years ago when I was 130 lbs heavier. Anyway, he said it was a 10% chance I would die. I would like to lay 10-1 for any amount if anybody knows this joker”

It has now been made official that Mack Rawden makes a bet of $1000 that Doyle Brunson will die in 2009. In the case of Brunsons death one of his freinds will step in and pay Rawden his well deserved $10 000.

Both parties have agreed to donating all of the winnings to the American Cancer Society.

Boxing Match Between The Two Great Danes

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

What do you do if you are a high stakes poker player with nothing to do one day? Easy! You challenge your friend to a high stakes boxing match in order to promote the launch of your new website.

This is what Danish poker professional Gus Hansen decided to do when he challenged his Danish friend Theo Jorgensen to a boxing match with $60 000 at stake.

These are the rules that the to competitors have lined up:

If Gus Hansen wins he will get $25 000 from Jorgensen.

If Theo Jorgensen wins he will receive $35 000 from Gus Hansen.

As you can see it looks like Gus Hansen should be the favourite in this match but according to all the betting companies it is Theo Jorgensen that is the favourite to win the match. The reason why Gus Hansen decided to make the stakes this way is probably due to the fact that he stands to gain a lot more from this game than Theo as he is using this match to promote the launch of his new website.

It is also rumoured that Ziimund will go up in the ring against another poker player but that match has yet to be determined.

Michael Phelps Photographed Smoking a Bong Cannabis Pipe

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

The British newspaper News of The World published a picture of olympic gold medalist/poker player Michael Phelps smoking Cannabis from a bong.

This picture could potentially ruin his swimming carrier and many people are losing faith in Phelps.

One of the guys from the party he attended had the following to say about Phelps which does not really inspire confidence in his future as a swimmer.

“If he continues to party like that I’d be amazed if he ever won any more medals again.”

Michael Phelps has now come out with an official statement and is asking all of his fans for forgiveness.

“I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”

It was not long ago that Michael Phelps went public with the fact that he is playing online poker and he is good friends with Doyle Brunson and there were rumours saying he would become a sponsored player at DoylesRoom.com. The fact that he was playing online poker did not really make him look good in the main stream media and this latest scandal cant have helped him much.

It will be interesting to see what will happen at the next Olympics, that is probably the only place where he can prove to the world once more that he has been able to move on.

Tom “durrrr” Dwan Down $3.5 million in 2009

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

The online poker king Tom “durrrr” Dwan lost another $586k at the Full Tilt Poker this Wednesday, thus shooting his total losses in the month of January to a whooping $3.53 million.

According to the stats provided by HighStakesDB.com, the total loss has arrived after 25,218 tracked hands. This means that in the month of January, Tom has lost $140 on each hand he played. This will result into an all time low for any online cash game player; so everybody is waiting with a bated breath to see how Tom fares in the last three days to save himself from registering his name in the pages of history as a “player who lost the most at poker during a single month”. Tom is undoubtedly one of the best poker players in the world, but this year’s start has proved to be very disappointing for him.

The reversal of luck can be seen from the fact that he pocketed a cool $5.41 million in 223,259 tracked hands during the 2008 Full Tilt Poker. Now, he has thrown away almost 65% of that amount within the first 28 days of this year.

Tom’s big loss of has resulted into huge gains for both Gus Hansen and Patrik Antonius. Antonius is reported to have pocketed $2.7 million dollar this month and Hansen has managed to take home $2.2 million. They have both sucked away huge sums from Tom.

One thing is for sure that Tom has a huge wealth stacked in his bank, but it is to be seen whether he can sustain for a long period of time with his wealth being depleted at such a rapid rate. Even if he has a wealth of $10 million, he has already lost about 35% of it in the very first month of this year. This figure can be mind boggling for anybody.

In the face of such a huge loss “durrrr” has remained unperturbed and is confident of bouncing back by mid February. The name of his first opponent is still to be known.

This is what Jason had to say after his inclusion PokerStars has very graciously asked me to sign on as one of their official players, I am very flattered and happy to be playing for a real quality site and with the kind of professionals that remind me every day how truly mediocre I am at this game. But I’m learning. And now I can learn from some of the best.”

DoylesRoom Moves to Cake Poker Network

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

DoylesRoom.com, a branch of the Microgaming Network, has announced the switching of all its players to the Cake Poker Network. This is because of the recent partnership with Cake Poker (a major poker network just after UIGEA). The movement of players to the network of cake exhibits Doyles’ commitment to the cause of serving the American players.

This is what Doyle Brunson, the owner, had to say about the new partnership ‘We wanted to offer our players a rewarding place to play and the liquidity and integrity associated with the Cake Poker Network made this an easy choice for our new partnership”.

The partnership and the movement of players became urgent because Microgaming has clearly stated about its plans to move away from the U.S. market. On the other hand, it is a complete win-win situation for Cake poker to partner with the 10 time winner of the World Series Poker bracelet. Cake Poker network realizes the value of having the godfather of poker Mr. Doyle Brunson aboard.

This is what Cake Poker Network had to say in its official statement regarding the partnership “Having the legend of poker choose our network to call home means a lot to us. We look forward to welcoming all of the DoylesRoom players and are excited to be able to offer all of our network players a chance to rub elbows with Doyle Brunson through some industry exclusive promotions and contests we will be launching in the next few months”.

The switching will foster into a good change for the players of DoylesRoom as they can expect higher network liquidity and thus bigger guaranteed tournaments. The change will also result into a better customer service, security and operations.

DoylesRoom has announced to all its existing and new players to join the $5000 Launch Party Freeroll on this Sunday at 5 pm ET. The players can then take part in the $100,000 Guaranteed Tournament that has a $150 + $12 buy-in. Log on to the DoylesRoom.com to know more.
